Green Living Technologies BRINGS ARTIST’S VISION TO LIFE AT ART BASEL MIAMI
When revolutionary artist Lars Jan wanted horticulture to make a statement about climate change in his art installation at the world-renown Art Basel show in Miami, he called on none other than GLTI. Through his tireless innovation and commitment to creating powerful, enigmatic greenspaces GLTI CEO George Irwin worked with Jan to make his artistic vision a reality. The installation, entitled “Slow-Moving Luminaries,” was on display at the Art Basel art fair from December 6-9, 2017 in Miami, Florida. The overwhelmingly powerful message regarding Mother Earth’s precarious future juxtaposed water, sand, over 1,100 tropical plants, and 4,000 square feet of vertical terrain in a labyrinth exhibit that spelled out “SOS” from above.
In the Architectural Digest article describing the installation’s intricate details: [the exhibit was built] “directly on the beach, inviting visitors to enter a labyrinth of sheer scrim walls in which luminous minimalist sculptures—gridded abstractions of the surrounding skyscrapers—intermittently rise through the skylights in the ceiling. On the upper deck, visitors can see them emerge from a shallow reflective pool that has the illusion of extending straight into the ocean. In a choreographed dance, they appear to rise out of the sea momentarily, and then sink back below, out of sight.”
Jan’s exhibit was one of the most highly anticipated installations at Art Basel this year. In addition to numerous accolades, he garnered hefty media coverage for this groundbreaking exhibit.
